A Smarter Approach to Health Care
CareUnity was launched in 2012 as an integrated care delivery system that functions as an accountable care organization (ACO). It is a joint venture Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) between Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington and Providence Health Care, and draws upon the best of what each parent system has to offer. The result is the largest physician organization in the Spokane area, offering coordinated patient care among family physicians, specialists, urgent care centers, hospitals, and expanded care providers.
CareUnity allows doctors from Washington Permanente Medical Group and Providence Medical Group to work together in innovative ways to deliver care in the best interests of the community. These providers agree to be accountable for the quality, cost, and overall care of their patients by coordinating their efforts across the care continuum. That means better health outcomes for patients, a more seamless health care experience, and an overall reduction in the total cost of care for payers and patients alike.
Our Parent Organizations
Kaiser Permanente, founded in 1945, is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans, serving 11.7 million members, with 39 hospitals and 677 medical offices in eight states and the District of Columbia. Its mission is to provide high quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of its members and the communities it serves. Kaiser Permanente joined Spokane’s health community in early 2017 with the acquisition of Group Health Cooperative by the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington, a subsidiary of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc.
Providence Health Care is a member of Providence Health & Services, a not-for-profit Catholic health care ministry committed to providing for the needs of the communities it serves—especially for those who are poor and vulnerable. This health system, which affiliated with Swedish Health Services in 2012, employs more than 82,000 people across five states—Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon and Washington. More
CareUnity is led by a board of directors made up of the leadership from the two parent organizations.
